## Description

Z.ai (formerly Zhipu AI) is a Chinese AI company founded in 2019 as a spinoff from Tsinghua University's Knowledge Engineering Group, co-founded by professors Tang Jie and Li Juanzi and led by CEO Zhang Peng. The world's first publicly listed large language model company — completing its Hong Kong Stock Exchange IPO (HKEX: 2513) in January 2026, raising approximately HKD 4.35 billion — Z.ai develops the GLM (General Language Model) family of foundation models powering its consumer chatbot at chat.z.ai. Its flagship GLM-5.2 features 753 billion parameters, a 1 million token context window, an MIT open-source licence, and competitive performance against OpenAI's GPT-5.5 on coding benchmarks at roughly one-sixth the price. The company's 2025 revenue reportedly grew 132% year-on-year, backed by investors including Alibaba, Tencent, Meituan, Ant Group, Xiaomi, and HongShan.
