## Description

The Sociedade Portuguesa de Anestesiologia (SPA) is Portugal’s professional society for anesthesiology, bringing together clinicians and supporting the development of the specialty. Its work spans education, research, professional collaboration, and the promotion of clinical quality and patient safety. The society includes specialist sections and working groups covering areas such as intensive care, pain medicine, airway management, pediatric and obstetric anesthesiology, neuroanesthesiology, perioperative medicine, and medical simulation.

SPA offers courses and educational events, shares clinical recommendations, and supports research and professional communication. Its resources include the Revista Portuguesa de Anestesiologia, other publications, a clinical library, podcasts, and the SPA app. The society also provides tools such as BloodAlive and a system for reporting incidents in anesthesiology. Members can access information about joining, subscriptions, events, and specialist activities. Through national initiatives, conferences, newsletters, and partnerships, SPA works to encourage knowledge-sharing and consistent practice across institutions. Its activities address current professional needs, including safer airway care, clinical risk reduction, and collaboration in pain management.
