## Description

SPARCS Leipzig is a European research and innovation project focused on developing sustainable, energy-positive and climate-neutral urban districts through digital solutions for energy supply. In Leipzig, the project brought together local partners and used model neighbourhoods, including the Dunckerviertel, the Baumwollspinnerei and a virtual energy district, as real-world laboratories for testing approaches to climate-friendly urban development.

Its work covers renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric mobility, data and planning processes, virtual power plants and citizen engagement. SPARCS supported renewable-energy installations to advance decarbonised heat and electricity, and carried out pilot projects exploring innovative ways to charge electric vehicles. It also developed digital tools, including an Energy Atlas, and a standard model for climate-conscious neighbourhood development. Research into more efficient energy use was paired with tools to encourage people to save energy. A virtual power plant integrates numerous decentralised devices and installations using automated data provision. Alongside technical work, SPARCS informs and raises awareness among Leipzig residents. The project’s website shares results, news, resources and information about its consortium.
