## Description

Meta Spark is Meta’s augmented reality platform, offering tools and resources for creating AR effects for Instagram and other apps across Meta’s family of products. Its offerings included Meta Spark Studio for building effects, Meta Spark Hub for managing them, and learning programs, documentation, community resources, and creator-focused content to support AR development. The platform brought together third-party tools and content from brands and independent creators, helping make augmented reality experiences available to people across Meta’s platforms. Meta says the creativity and innovation of this community helped extend AR’s reach to hundreds of millions of people.

Following a review of its priorities, Meta announced that it would shut down the platform for third-party tools and content effective January 14, 2025. From that date, AR effects made by third parties would no longer be available. Meta-owned AR effects would continue to be available within its family of apps. Until the shutdown, users could continue using Spark and third-party effects, with Meta directing creators and businesses to its FAQs for transition details and recommended actions.
