## Description

Spartan is the public-facing name of Ukraine’s 3rd Operational Brigade of the National Guard, officially named after Colonel Petro Bolbochan. Formed in Kharkiv in 2014, the brigade has served in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and Joint Forces Operation, including around Mariupol, Debaltseve, Popasna and Krymske. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, its soldiers have defended positions across Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In 2023, the brigade became part of the Offensive Guard assault brigades and adopted the name Spartan. Its website shares the brigade’s history, news, recruitment information and details about training, which includes basic military instruction, practical skills and later unit adaptation and specialization. It also runs official fundraising campaigns for transport, equipment, drones and other unit needs, and offers branded merchandise such as patches, flags, clothing and caps; proceeds support the brigade and its personnel. The site also highlights Spartan’s partnership with Kharkiv Unbreakable, a football team bringing together people with limb amputations or impairments, including wounded service members and veterans.
