## Description

Specs For Africa is a UK-based charity dedicated to improving sight and changing lives through the collection and redistribution of pre-loved spectacles and sunglasses. Launched in 2022, the organisation assesses donated eyewear to determine its strength, then sends it to carefully selected community projects across southern and eastern Africa. It delivers between 5,000 and 10,000 pairs each year, supporting people in Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Malawi. By helping recipients see more clearly and protecting their eyes from harmful sunlight, the charity aims to make it easier for people to learn, work and provide for their families.

The charity invites individuals and communities to donate used glasses, and travellers heading to its target countries can help by carrying a bag of specs in their luggage. Supporters can also sponsor the cost of an air freight shipment, contribute to running costs, or spread the message through social media and personal networks. Specs For Africa shares updates and stories from its partner projects in a quarterly newsletter.
