## Description

Spectre is a privacy-first password and identity platform built around a simple idea: passwords should be calculated when needed, not stored in an app or uploaded to the cloud. Its free, open-source password cipher uses a person’s name, a private Spectre secret, and a website’s domain to generate a distinct password for that account. Users remember their secret while Spectre’s algorithm recreates each password on demand, including offline, without retaining the passwords.

The platform is designed to give people greater control over their digital identity and reduce reliance on cloud accounts and other external services. By generating separate credentials for different sites, Spectre aims to limit the impact of a breach at one service on other accounts.
