## Description

De Spekzullekes is an active, community-focused carnival association founded in 1983 in the Rijpelberg district of Helmond, the Netherlands. Its name reflects a local story from the district’s early years, when residents faced heavy mortgage costs and a tale spread that a postman’s shoes with bacon soles were stolen every day. Since then, the association has grown into one of Helmond’s largest carnival groups, with supporters in Rijpelberg, Dierdonk and Brouwhuis. Since 2021, its home base has been the De Zonnesteen community centre.

The association brings people together through carnival celebrations and related activities. Its annual programme includes events on carnival Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, as well as a prince’s reception, a farewell to the prince, school activities, SpekZever Café and the Rode Neuzenbal. Members and supporters can also explore the association’s history, meet its carnival princes and court, and learn about its council groups and dance teams. De Spekzullekes shares photographs and films, welcomes new members, and acknowledges the local sponsors and supporters who help sustain its community activities.
