The Sphinx Organization is a social justice brand dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts. Based in Detroit, Michigan, Sphinx aims to increase the representation of Black and Latinx artists in classical music while recognizing excellence in the field. From beginner students to seasoned professionals, Sphinx offers a wide range of programs and services. These include year-round tuition-free education, performances, and tours by premier ensembles and soloists, as well as commissioning and performing new works by Black and Latinx composers. Sphinx also provides administrative leadership programs, cultural innovation initiatives, and partnerships with over 300 organizations to bring programming to a national scale. Led by Artistic Director Afa S. Dworkin, Sphinx is committed to ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to learn classical music, that audiences reflect the diversity of our communities, and that deserving voices are represented on and off stage. With a collective of vibrant and talented leaders, Sphinx is transforming the classical music field into a more inclusive and representative space.
