## Description

SPINTAN, or Smart Public Intangibles, is an innovative project focused on exploring the theories and empirical foundations of public intangible policies. Funded by the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme, SPINTAN aims to expand previous research by integrating the public sector into the analytical framework established by prominent economists. The project pursues three main objectives: developing a comprehensive public intangible database across various EU countries and select non-EU nations, analyzing the influence of public sector intangibles on innovation and societal well-being, and assessing the long-term impacts of austerity measures following the 2008 financial crisis.

Structured around six work packages, SPINTAN addresses key topics such as health, education, and research and development—especially in higher education institutions. Led by Matilde Mas from the Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Económicas in Spain, SPINTAN involves collaboration among academic researchers from multiple European institutes, emphasizing policy implications derived from its findings to foster smart growth and social inclusion.
