## Description

The Spitfire Makers Charitable Trust is a Southampton-based charity dedicated to commemorating, preserving and sharing the history of the people who built the Spitfire during the Second World War. Formed in March 2020, the Trust grew from a community project launched to mark the 80th anniversary of the bombing of the Vickers Supermarine factories at Woolston and the dispersal of production to more than 30 sites in and around Southampton.

The Trust highlights the contributions of the women and men who worked in factories, workshops and subcontractor sites, helping bring their stories to wider audiences through historical research, photographs and community knowledge. Its website provides information on Spitfire production and dispersal sites, a “Spitfire Makers” A–Z, commemorative plaques, pennants, local trail maps, events and historical facts. It also shares details about the organisation, its team, aims, history, policies and annual reports.

Working with local groups, archives, museums and supporters, the charity seeks to honour the makers’ legacy and support public learning about Southampton’s role in Spitfire production.
