About
Description
SPJA, also known as the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1992. Our mission is to celebrate and uplift the unique and deep culture surrounding Japanese animation. Our roots originated from Cal Animage Alpha, an anime club at UC Berkeley, and we have since grown exponentially in our endeavors.
Our flagship event, Anime Expo, is the largest anime convention in North America, held annually in Downtown Los Angeles. We also organize Project Anime, a premier professional conference that brings together anime convention organizers, vendors, and industry members. Additionally, we partner with World Cosplay Summit to organize its US preliminary, where representatives are selected to represent the US in the global cosplay competition.
Throughout all our events, our core values remain consistent. We value having fun, transparency, integrity, creativity, and ownership. We aim to inspire the world through Japanese animation and culture by promoting, celebrating, and educating the public about anime, manga, video games, and traditional culture.
