## Description

Split This Rock is a brand that calls poets to a greater role in public life and fosters a national network of socially engaged poets. They cultivate, teach, and celebrate poetry that bears witness to injustice and provokes social change. With a mission to revitalize poetry as a living and breathing art form, Split This Rock explores and celebrates the diverse ways poetry can act as an agent for change. Based in the nation's capital, Split This Rock promotes poetic diversity and the transformative power of the imagination. Their programs integrate poetry of provocation and witness into movements for social justice, supporting poets of all ages who write and perform vital work. The name Split This Rock is inspired by a line from Langston Hughes' poem Big Buddy, symbolizing the collective effort to break open the injustices in society. Join Split This Rock and be a part of a community dedicated to creating a better world through the power of poetry.
