## Description

Spokes is the Lothian Cycle Campaign, a dedicated non-partisan voluntary organization founded in 1977, with over 1,000 members advocating for improved cycling conditions across Edinburgh and the Lothians. The organization focuses on lobbying local authorities to enhance cycling infrastructure and promote the cycling community through various initiatives. Spokes plays a pivotal role in encouraging growth in cycling participation, having witnessed a rise in cycle commuting from just 1% of trips at its inception to 7% by 2011, even as cycling rates in the rest of the UK declined.

Their offerings include detailed cycling maps, educational resources, technical advice, and a platform for community engagement through events such as local bike rides and public meetings. Additionally, Spokes actively organizes competitions, safety campaigns, and provides essential information on cycling laws and infrastructure issues. Their commitment to fostering a vibrant cycling culture aims not only to improve public transport options but also to promote a healthier and more environmentally friendly mode of travel for all.
