## Description

The Surveillance Studies Centre (SSC) is a prominent research institution affiliated with the Department of Sociology at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada. This multi-disciplinary and international center focuses on the critical examination of surveillance practices, particularly in the context of big data. SSC is dedicated to investigating the implications of data surveillance across various sectors, including security, marketing, and governance, through projects like the Big Data Surveillance initiative and its associated reports.

The SSC is recognized for its innovative approaches, including the "Screening Surveillance" film series, which creatively highlights potential privacy concerns through near-future fiction narratives. Additionally, the center publishes scholarly materials, hosts seminars, and supports events, contributing to the broader discourse on privacy and personal data in contemporary society. Funded primarily by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the SSC aims to elevate public understanding and foster informed discussions on the social impacts of surveillance in an increasingly data-driven world.
