# Society for the Social History of Medicine - **Website:** - **Primary alias:** `sshm.org` ## Description The Society for the Social History of Medicine (SSHM) is a UK charitable organisation that promotes interdisciplinary research into the history of health, welfare, medical science and practice. Established following its inaugural meeting in 1970, it brings together members from fields including history, public health, demography, anthropology, sociology, social administration and health economics. The Society supports scholarship through publications, events, funding and professional opportunities. Its journal publishes research on health, illness and medical treatment in the past, welcoming perspectives from a range of disciplines.
