## Description

Standing Record is a non-partisan US publication and public historical archive documenting authoritarianism, anti-democratic behavior, and corruption in government, regardless of political party. Its mission is to maintain an accessible record of events that erode democratic norms, from local incidents to national actions. Each entry is anchored to a primary source, such as a court filing, agency record, or citizen-captured recording, or supported by two independent investigative outlets.

The archive organizes events through a timeline and searchable categories, including ideals, abuses, episodes, actors, and jurisdictions. Readers can explore records by democratic principles such as free and fair elections, rule of law, civil rights, due process, press freedom, and accountable use of state power. Standing Record also invites the public to submit stories and corrections, and offers a free daily email digest of newly filed entries. The historical record is maintained in a public GitLab repository and licensed under CC BY 4.0. With no advertising or tracking, Standing Record provides a documented resource for following and examining threats to democratic accountability.
