## Description

StarBase 118 is a fan-produced Star Trek play-by-email roleplaying community that has been creating collaborative adventures since 1994. Members write original characters aboard starships and outposts, contributing scenes by email every few days to build shared stories that unfold across individual crews and the wider fleet. The experience is free, requires no special software or previous roleplaying experience, and is open to writers around the world.

New members can apply through the Academy, where they create a character and complete a week-long cadet training cruise with guidance from dedicated trainers. Graduates are matched with a fleet crew based on their preferences and the community’s needs. The fleet includes multiple ships and stations, with ongoing stories, news, and a community wiki.

StarBase 118 also offers opportunities to help with training, live events, wiki development, and social media. Members can take part in Discord chats, writing challenges, fleet-wide events, annual awards, and a Star Trek Online gaming group.
