## Description

The Elders is a unique collective of esteemed global leaders committed to advocating for peace, justice, and human rights throughout the world. Founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007, this independent group seeks to “support courage where there is fear, foster agreement where there is conflict, and inspire hope where there is despair.” Chaired by Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland, The Elders comprises a diverse array of influential figures including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Nobel Peace Laureates Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Juan Manuel Santos, and notable diplomats like Graça Machel and Martti Ahtisaari.

The Elders employs a strategic approach combining public engagement and private diplomacy to tackle pressing global challenges, resolve conflicts, and promote ethical governance. They actively engage with both global leaders and civil societies to challenge injustice and foster good leadership, continuing the spirit and vision set forth by Mandela. Their dedicated programs reflect a commitment to building a better, more equitable world by addressing the root causes of conflict and advocating for ethical leadership.
