Step by Step WV is a brand that is dedicated to fostering kindred communities across Southern West Virginia. With a mission to help people achieve their dreams, Step by Step offers various programs and services focused on dialogue, education and the arts, wellness, local leadership, and resources. Since its founding in 1988, Step by Step has been committed to providing opportunities for young people to explore, discover, and express their gifts through their Dream program.

They also emphasize the importance of work, recognizing the agency of children, youth, parents, and guardians, and creating paths for them to develop vital skills as thriving citizens. Additionally, Step by Step aims to grow communities that surround children and youth with love and support throughout their journey from childhood to independent adulthood. In 1995, the brand expanded its focus to working with communities to support children in preventing and healing from trauma.

They established West Virginia Dreamers, a nationally recognized framework that follows children until they graduate high school. Step by Step also transformed the Big Ugly Community Center into a hub for their ongoing programs, including community education, after-school activities, and full-day summer programs. Pivoting during the Covid pandemic, Step by Step distributed over 70,000 meals to families in need while providing stress-busting family activities through learning packets.

They have also been instrumental in community development, sponsoring numerous national service teams and helping launch various after-school and feeding programs. Step by Step WV continues to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families in Southern West Virginia, serving as a beacon of hope and support. Their efforts have been made possible through the dedication of their CEO and founder, Michael Tierney, as well as their passionate directors, donors, board members, and partners.

With a budget of $1. 2 million, Step by Step has directly served 1,527 children from 2018 to 2019 and has a payroll of 105 people. It has incubated and seeded 25 programs to date.

The brand takes pride in its collaborations with local and national funders, including organizations like VISTA, AmeriCorps, the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the WV Governor's Cabinet on Children and Families. Step by Step WV actively partners with various organizations and initiatives such as PATCH 21 afterschool, American Friends Service Committee, Crittenton Services, Our Children Our Future, and the WV Council of Churches, among others.
