About

Description

Steppenwolf Theatre, a renowned ensemble theatre company, has been at the forefront of redefining the landscape of acting and performance for over 45 years. Founded by three high school and college friends, Jeff Perry, Terry Kinney, and Gary Sinise, the company has grown to include 49 members representing a remarkable generation of actors, directors, and playwrights. Their groundbreaking productions, such as Balm in Gilead and August: Osage County, have earned them critical acclaim, including twelve Tony® Awards and the National Medal of Arts.

As a not-for-profit organization, Steppenwolf relies on community support to produce up to 16 plays and nearly 700 performances, readings, and other events each year on their three stages. Their artistic and educational programs attract a multi-generational audience of nearly 200,000 from the greater Chicago area and beyond. Steppenwolf also tours nationally and internationally, expanding its impact across borders.

Steppenwolf is committed to creating thrilling, courageous, and provocative art in a thoughtful and inclusive environment. They strive for inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) and offer a wide range of programming, including a seven-play season, a Steppenwolf for Young Adults season, visiting company engagements, and LookOut, a multidisciplinary performance series. Located in front of the 1700 Theater, Front Bar provides a warm and creative space to grab a drink, have a bite, and socialize with friends and collaborators.

It offers artisanal coffee and espresso by Passion House Coffee Roasters, with food by The Goddess and Grocer. Steppenwolf's special events provide unique opportunities to celebrate their work and create a space for communities to engage in dialogue about the ideas expressed on their stages. Their outreach and education programs, such as Steppenwolf for Young Adults and The School at Steppenwolf, aim to share their values and methods, nourishing both the world and their own growth as artists and arts administrators.
