## Description

The Operation Chariot Memorial Project is a heritage and education initiative dedicated to preserving the story of the 1942 Raid on St Nazaire and honouring the sailors and commandos who took part. Operation Chariot was a joint British operation involving the Royal Navy, Army Commandos and Royal Air Force. Its objective was to disable the Normandie Dock in occupied France, preventing German battleships from using the largest dry dock on the Atlantic coast. The project shares the raid’s history, from its planning and journey from Falmouth to the attack, its aftermath and continuing remembrance.

The organisation is developing a memorial in Staffordshire and supports commemorative activities at locations including St Nazaire and Falmouth. Its website offers historical information, photographs, news and details of memorials and donors. It also provides or is developing educational resources for teachers, students, researchers and historians, including teacher and student packs and learning activities. These materials explore the raid’s historical significance as well as subjects such as geography, strategic planning, teamwork and resilience.
