## Description

Stop Ecocide International is a global advocacy organisation working to establish ecocide—the severe destruction of the natural environment—as an international crime, alongside war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity. Its vision is a world where vital ecosystems are protected through enforceable legal frameworks that deter destructive practices and help safeguard nature and future generations.

The organisation advances recognition of ecocide through diplomatic engagement and collaboration across civil society. It shares information about ecocide law, supports positive legislative change and highlights developments in countries considering or pursuing legal measures. Its work draws on the 2021 definition developed by an Independent Expert Panel, describing ecocide as unlawful or wanton acts committed with knowledge of a substantial likelihood of severe and either widespread or long-term environmental damage.

Stop Ecocide International also connects supporters, partners, funders and business networks. Its website provides news, podcasts, events, media coverage, guest blogs and resources, including information on the legal definition and regional initiatives.
