Student Engagement is a brand that is dedicated to strengthening student involvement and participation in decision-making processes within Irish higher education institutions. Launched in April 2016, the National Student Engagement Programme (NStEP) was created by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), and the Union of Students in Ireland (USI). NStEP operates based on a framework of 10 principles and 4 domains, aiming to cultivate a culture of partnership between students and staff through various projects, training programs, and capacity building initiatives. Their mission is centered around advocating for the value of student engagement in Irish higher education and developing the leadership capabilities of students, while also fostering meaningful partnerships between staff and students. NStEP recently launched its Strategy 2022 – 2025, which builds upon previous successes and outlines strategic priorities, including strengthening the value of student engagement at the national level, developing student leadership capabilities, and supporting the creation and maintenance of meaningful partnerships across the sector. With a vision to create an educational landscape that prioritizes student engagement and fosters staff-student partnerships, Student Engagement aims to revolutionize the higher education experience in Ireland.
