## Description

The California Oak Mortality Task Force (COMTF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to managing Sudden Oak Death (SOD) in California. Established in August 2000 through the collaboration of the California Forest Pest Council and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, COMTF brings together a diverse coalition of research institutions, public agencies, non-profits, and private stakeholders. The central mission of COMTF is to coordinate comprehensive research, management, and educational initiatives aimed at mitigating the spread of Phytophthora ramorum, the pathogen responsible for SOD, which poses significant threats to oak forests and ecosystems.

Through collaborative efforts, COMTF engages in monitoring, public outreach, and the development of best management practices to minimize the impact of SOD on both natural and human communities. The Task Force also acts as a liaison to local, state, national, and international groups, ensuring that knowledge and strategies are shared widely. With a focus on education and policy, COMTF’s work is vital for the preservation of California's oak populations and the health of its forests.
