## Description

Memories in the Makin’ is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based at Sugar Run Stables in Avella, Pennsylvania. It provides equine-assisted activities and therapy for children and adults with disabilities or special needs, as well as military veterans. The organization’s adaptive riding program offers horseback riding and horsemanship lessons, helping participants build a connection with horses through riding and groundwork. Riders can learn practical skills such as feeding and watering horses, grooming, cleaning stalls, and leading. The program emphasizes the relationship between each person and horse, while supporting confidence, communication, social skills, emotional awareness, responsibility, trust, and motor skills. Its services are intended for people with a range of needs, including autism spectrum disorder, PTSD and trauma, dementia, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, and other mental health conditions. Memories in the Makin’ relies on donations, volunteers, and sponsors to sustain its program and help cover horse care, facility maintenance, and specialized equipment. Volunteers are welcome, with training provided and no experience required.
