## Description

SUHAKAM is an independent organization known as the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia. Established under the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act 1999, SUHAKAM aims to investigate complaints related to human rights violations. Human rights, which are the fundamental rights of every individual regardless of their background, are at the core of SUHAKAM's work. The initiative to establish SUHAKAM began with Malaysia's active participation in the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. Guided by the 1993 Paris Principles and the experience of established human rights institutions, SUHAKAM was officially established in 1999. Led by a Chairman and a diverse group of members selected based on their experience, commitment, independence, and integrity, SUHAKAM operates from its own premises in Kuala Lumpur. In addition to its primary functions of promoting awareness, providing education on human rights, and advising the government on legislation, SUHAKAM also investigates complaints regarding human rights infringements. It has the power to undertake research, conduct programs and workshops, advise the government on complaints, and recommend necessary measures. SUHAKAM's ultimate vision is to create a society in Malaysia where human rights are fully respected, protected, and enjoyed equally by all. They welcome and encourage feedback and views from the public, communities, schools, and youths, regardless of their background.
