## Description

Suncatchers is a privately run childhood enrichment program founded by Kathy Scott in 1989 to support working parents and provide children with a welcoming place to learn and play before and after school. Based at Melissa Jones School in Guilford, Connecticut, the program serves students in kindergarten through grade four and is also open to elementary-age children from other schools when families arrange transportation. During the school year, Suncatchers operates on weekdays from 7 to 9 a.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m. Its approach combines child care with hands-on learning, friendship, practical life skills, personal development, and recreation in a safe, nurturing, low-pressure setting. Children can explore arts and crafts, cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, building projects, and seasonal activities, as well as sports, active games, and free play. Nutritious snacks are provided. Suncatchers describes its aim as bringing learning, fun, and friendship together, while encouraging children to try new activities and grow in confidence and independence. The program also offers summer camp, according to the site’s overview.
