About
Description
The Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary Foundation (BTEF), established in 1995, is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to supporting the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP). Their mission is to engage a diverse group of individuals in the stewardship of the cultural, economic, and ecological resources of the Barataria and Terrebonne Basins. BTEF provides valuable support to BTNEP through various initiatives.
They contribute to habitat restoration by undertaking projects such as vegetative plantings, restoration of bird nesting grounds, wetlands, and maritime forests. They also actively participate in invasive species and litter removal programs. Furthermore, BTEF plays a crucial role in coordinating volunteer programs.
They assist local and visiting volunteers in engaging in restoration and preservation efforts hosted by BTNEP, contributing to the protection of the estuary. The foundation is committed to outreach and education as well, sponsoring educational events throughout the sixteen parishes of the estuary, fostering awareness and knowledge about this unique ecosystem. Additionally, BTEF supports research, particularly in the area of coastal bird research, which aids in the protection of habitat for migratory and resident birds.
For more information about their work and to get involved, visit their website or contact them via phone or email. Be sure to sign up for their newsletter to stay updated on their latest activities. Β© 2016 BTEF All Rights Reserved | *Source: usgs.
