## Description

Surveillance Valley is a thought-provoking book by Yasha Levine that explores the hidden military history behind the development of the internet. The narrative traces the origins of this ubiquitous tool—from its inception as a Vietnam-era military project designed for surveillance—to its evolution into a platform used by Silicon Valley today. Levine uncovers connections between spies, counterinsurgency efforts, and early internet technologies, revealing how these elements are intertwined with the rise of modern privacy apps often funded by government agencies. With endorsements from reputable sources like The New Yorker, which describes the work as "contentious" and "forceful," Surveillance Valley has garnered recognition, including a spot on the British Army's Book of the Year shortlist. Available in multiple regions, this compelling read invites readers to rethink their understanding of the internet's role in society from the 1960s to the 2010s and beyond. Join Levine on this investigative journey to discover the intricate layers of surveillance that define our digital landscape.
