## Description

Survey of India (SoI) is India’s National Mapping Agency under the Department of Science and Technology and one of the Government of India’s oldest scientific departments. Established in 1767, it has more than two and a half centuries of experience in surveying and map preparation. Its role is to explore and map the country, provide reliable base maps for development, and support the effective use of geographic resources.

SoI offers maps and geospatial data through its online maps portal and related services. Its products include political, physical, road, railway, state, tourist, educational and outline maps, as well as Open Series Maps, administrative boundary data, digital elevation models, aerial products and aeronautical charts. The organisation also provides tidal and geodetic information and maintains services such as the SOI Geo Portal and CORS web application.

Its projects span land and coastal surveys, water-resource mapping, vertical datum improvements and web-based governance applications. Through these resources, SoI supports public access to mapping information and contributes to planning, national development and security.
