## Description

Surya Spiti Marathon is a high-altitude running event set in the dramatic landscapes of Spiti Valley in the Himalayas. Presented as an Indian Army initiative, the event brings together runners seeking endurance, adventure, and a close-up experience of the region’s mountain roads, glacial rivers, cold desert terrain, and historic monasteries. Its 2026 programme features four races: the 77-kilometre Kunzum La Challenge, the 42.195-kilometre marathon, the 21.0975-kilometre half marathon, and the 10-kilometre dash. The routes are designed for different abilities, from seasoned ultra-runners to beginners, while altitude and terrain make each distance a distinctive challenge. The event provides race information and guidance on acclimatization, clothing, eligibility, fees, accommodation, travel, and bib collection. Participants can also access race results, winners, certificates, and event photographs. Official travel transport between Zirakpur, Sumdo, and Kaza, along with accommodation at the race’s Tent City, can be booked through its service partners. The race distances are described as AIMS-certified, with internationally measured courses.
