About
Description
Welcome to the South Whitley Community Public Library, serving the South Whitley area since 1913. With a rich history of community support, our library has been a pillar of knowledge and inspiration for over a century. Our story began in 1912 when a group of citizens came together to form the library.
Since then, we have grown and evolved, continuously striving to meet the needs of our community. In 1970, we moved into our current building thanks to the generous support of Fred Graham, who established a trust fund to ensure the library's future. Throughout the years, we have expanded and renovated to provide even better services.
In 1989, the library was enlarged to showcase Mr. Theodore Schultz's semi-precious gem collection. In 2006-2007, we underwent a significant expansion, adding community meeting rooms, a local history/genealogy room, and more.
In 2020, we further expanded our facilities with small meeting rooms and an auditorium, thanks to a substantial donation from Alan Fox. Our mission is to connect people, inspire ideas, and transform lives. From our extensive library resources to our digital resources such as Ancestry.
com and Hoopla, we provide a wealth of information and entertainment for all ages. Visit us at 201 East Front Street, South Whitley, and experience the joy of learning and community at the South Whitley Community Public Library.
