## Description

The South African Swimhistory Project is a dedicated initiative to document and preserve the rich history of swimming in South Africa and the surrounding southern African region from 1900 to 2025. Established by Kobus Scheepers in 1996, following the remarkable world record set by Penny Heyns, the project aims to fill the gaps in aquatic sports records, creating a comprehensive database that highlights the achievements of swimmers, including Olympians and world champions.

The project encompasses a wide range of FINA-regulated sports such as swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo, as well as related disciplines like lifesaving and triathlons. Important stories of competitors, from local talents to international medalists, are shared through their personal experiences and memorabilia. The website, developed using Joomla, serves as a platform for this growing archive, inviting contributions from the public to enrich the content. This ongoing effort seeks not only to educate but also to celebrate the legacy of aquatic sports in the region.
