The Sylvia Center is a New York City-based non-profit organization dedicated to teaching the connection between food and health through nutrition-focused, culinary-based programming. Our mission is to educate young people about the importance of a healthy diet and empower them to make informed food choices. Through our various programs, participants learn essential life skills such as distinguishing between whole and processed foods, building a healthy plate, exploring new flavors, and understanding seasonality.

We also focus on boosting confidence by developing skills in public speaking, teamwork, and time management. Additionally, our Teen and Young Adult programs introduce the concepts of food justice and food science. The impact of our programs is significant, as participants improve their diet by incorporating more fruits and vegetables, enhance their cooking skills, and gain a true passion for cooking.
