## Description

Szlagowski Karate Association is a martial arts organization with roots in Blacktown, Australia. The site states that Szlagowski Karate was founded around 1958 by Waldemar (Wally) von Szlagowski and describes it as possibly the country’s oldest karate club or school. Its focus is karate instruction and training, with historical references to regular Saturday practice and the association’s members. A photograph captioned on the site records a training gathering at Captain Cook Park in Bungarribee Road, Blacktown, on 20 March 1982, attended by members of the Shuto Karate Club of Sydney, led by Syd Stephenson, from Wollongong. The site also documents the association’s history through portraits, photographs, news and updates, and details of its emblems. Its copper shield was designed and developed by Grandmaster Vladimir Pijov between 1974 and 1979. Other displayed patches reflect early Blacktown Karate designs and a connection to Japan’s Shindo Jinen Karate School. The archive also highlights Wally Szlagowski in a 1963 MAN Magazine feature.
