## Description

NPO Taiyo no Mura is a child and youth support organization serving Sagamihara and Machida, Japan. For 15 years, it has offered support for children with developmental characteristics and those experiencing school attendance difficulties, serving students from elementary through high school. Its programs include after-school day services, a free school, a dedicated high school program, and outdoor nature experiences. Families can choose free-school-style or comprehensive support, with individualized plans and consultation. Support may include learning and recreation, help with school reports and attendance arrangements, accompaniment to school-related activities, and guidance toward future education or employment. Taiyo no Mura places particular emphasis on play and outdoor learning, including fire-making, outdoor cooking, camping, overnight stays, and group activities that encourage social skills and confidence. It also offers opportunities for community participation and family gatherings through the monthly Sansan Café. With several locations across Sagamihara and Machida, the organization provides an alternative place to belong for children who find school or group settings challenging, while working with families to support each child’s development and next steps.
