## Description

Huis Talje is a children’s home dedicated to caring for children with severe intellectual and physical disabilities, particularly those from previously disadvantaged communities. Founded on 1 September 1999, the home grew from a community response to the urgent needs of a young child who had nowhere safe to go. Established with guidance from the Department of Health and Social Development, Huis Talje strives to offer each child a secure, nurturing environment grounded in dignity, compassion, and belonging.

Its services include accommodation, clothing, nutritious meals, safety and stability, comprehensive medical and dental care, specialised therapies, and educational and recreational activities. The organisation also aims to strengthen family life, work with government bodies and other organisations, provide training programmes, raise essential funds, and promote awareness.

Local volunteers support the home through governance, practical help, and donations of food, clothing, and equipment. Government subsidies cover only part of the substantial operating costs, so Huis Talje relies on donors and wider community support to sustain its work.
