## Description

TaxProProof is an online directory and information resource for people looking to research US tax preparers. It organizes the IRS Consolidated PTIN List, a public record, into searchable listings covering more than 803,000 preparers across all 50 states and thousands of cities. Visitors can browse by location or credential and review a preparer’s listed firm affiliation and recognized credential, such as CPA, enrolled agent, attorney, or Annual Filing Season Program participant. Each listing links to the IRS directory so users can confirm information at its source. TaxProProof presents the data without paid rankings or invented scores and explains its methodology and limitations. The site also offers practical tax-filing guides on choosing a preparer, understanding PTINs and credential types, questions to ask before hiring, and reporting a problematic preparer. Additional resources describe different preparer roles and credentials, including those related to retirement plans and ITIN applications. TaxProProof is a lookup and education service, not an endorsement of listed preparers or a provider of tax, legal, or financial advice.
