The Tungabhadra Board is a key inter-state organization established on October 1, 1953, to manage and oversee the utilization of the Tungabhadra River, which spans approximately 531 kilometers across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. This river is formed by the confluence of two streams—Tunga and Bhadra—originating in the Western Ghats. The Board was conceived in response to the severe famine conditions in the Rayalseema region, with its initial proposals dating back to 1860.
