About
Description
The Climate Reality Project is the Indian chapter of the climate change leadership program led by Nobel Laureate and former Vice President Al Gore. With a mission to educate the public about the harmful effects of climate change, this organization works towards grassroots solutions worldwide. Established in 2008 in collaboration with Al Gore and Dr.
R K Pachauri, the foundation has trained hundreds of civic leaders dedicated to spreading awareness about climate change in India. In addition to expanding climate change presentations, The Climate Reality Project focuses on India-specific problems and solutions. They implement powerful awareness programs, develop content on Indian solutions, and work closely with teachers to bring the message of Climate Change into classrooms.
Through their initiatives, they support over 10,000 volunteers worldwide who have been trained personally by Al Gore to deliver impactful presentations on climate crisis and solutions. These presenters have reached a global audience of more than 7. 3 million people, emphasizing the urgency for action.
The organization offers various programs to address climate change education. The Teachers Training Program empowers educators to facilitate climate change and sustainability education inside and outside the classroom, aiming to bring about attitude and behavior changes to reduce future climate change severity and build resilience. The Climate Youth Leadership Program enables young individuals to become leaders in sustainable development and environmental conservation.
Additionally, they organize Principals Conclave, a workshop on Sustainable Development Goals, jointly organized by The Climate Reality Project India and UNESCO. By participating in these programs, teachers gain Climate Literacy and learn to integrate climate change content into their lessons, contributing to a Green Image for their schools and reducing carbon footprint. The training also provides opportunities for knowledge expansion through debates, discussions, and interactions with teachers from other schools.
Participants are recognized as Climate Champions and receive certificates. Over the past three years, The Climate Reality Project has achieved significant milestones. They have trained over 1,000 teachers from 542 schools, including prestigious institutions like Mayo, Sanskriti, and Sriram.
Collaborating with government bodies in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Mumbai, they have trained teachers and established MOUs with more than 10 organizations to scale their programs. They have also facilitated skill-sharing with educators from Australia and Indonesia, resulting in the development of sustainability content for youth. Additionally, the organization has organized workshops and conclave events in various Indian states.
