Teach For Canada–Gakinaamaage is a brand that aims to make education more equal by working with northern First Nations communities. Their mission is to recruit, prepare, and support committed teachers who can make a difference in these communities. Education in Canada is often seen as a success story, but there is deep inequality that is often overlooked.

Only 48 percent of First Nations youth living on reserves have a high school diploma, and in the North, those numbers are even lower. Teach For Canada–Gakinaamaage focuses on addressing the twin challenges of teacher supply and turnover, which contribute to the education gap between First Nations and non-First Nations communities. They work with education leaders to recruit and select teachers who have the right motivations, aptitude, and fit for teaching in a northern First Nation.

Teachers undergo a community-focused summer preparation program and receive ongoing support during their minimum two-year teaching commitment. Currently, there are 120 Teach For Canada—Gakinaamaage educators working in 25 partner First Nations, making a real impact on student attendance, engagement, and achievement.
