## Description

Te Arahanga is a culturally based tāiao management company established in 2014 to help build a path between the aspirations, tikanga and kawa of whānau, hapū and iwi and the requirements of government. It provides culturally grounded information to support iwi decision-making, rather than acting as a decision-maker. Its experienced team combines mātauranga Māori and western science to help communities understand and manage changes to the natural environment.

Services include cultural monitoring at development and earth-moving sites, where monitors work with an archaeologist to identify and manage exposed sites of cultural importance, taonga and kōiwi in accordance with Lore and Law. Te Arahanga also prepares Cultural Health Indexing reports to assess the health of the tāiao, and Cultural Impact reports examining social, cultural, environmental and economic effects on whānau, hapū and iwi. Its training program supports learners to develop skills in tāiao management, cultural monitoring and kaitiakitanga, including engagement with governance agencies.
