## Description

Tekano is a South African nonprofit organisation working toward a healthier, more equal society, grounded in the Constitution’s Bill of Rights. Its work focuses on health equity and the structural and social conditions that shape people’s health and access to care. Tekano brings together individuals, groups, professions and communities, recognising that progress depends on many perspectives and varied approaches to change.

A central part of the organisation is its annual Fellows Programme. Tekano invites applications and screens, selects and recruits approximately 25 fellows each year for a yearlong programme. Through its Fellows and Alumni programmes, it supports people working to advance health equity and strengthen their capacity to contribute to change. The organisation also maintains an independent public voice, sharing stories, analysis and updates through news, publications, videos, podcasts and other resources. Its coverage highlights issues including migrant health, food security, public healthcare access and menstrual health. Based in Woodstock, Cape Town, Tekano connects its programmes and communications with a wider community committed to equality and improved health in South Africa.
