Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is a local government body responsible for coordinating public transport and other types of travel in Greater Manchester. With over 5. 6 million journeys made across the region's transport network each day, TfGM plays a vital role in keeping the city-region moving and growing.

Our main objective is to make travel easier and more connected in Greater Manchester. As the local government body responsible for delivering the region's transport strategy, we work closely with bus, tram, and train operators to improve the full journey experience. We own and plan for the future of Metrolink, the UK's largest light rail network, and promote sustainable travel options such as walking and cycling.

Additionally, we subsidize bus services in areas where no commercial services are available and manage a 360-mile 'Key Route Network' to keep traffic flowing on busy roads. At TfGM, we also invest in modern transport interchanges, offer affordable fares for older people, children, and disabled individuals, and develop innovative ways to plan and navigate journeys using data and technology. We are committed to reducing transport-related air pollution and actively coordinate plans to achieve this goal.

Looking ahead, we have an ambitious capital transport investment program, which aims to establish a fully integrated, high-capacity transport network by 2040, as outlined in our 2040 Transport Strategy. We also prioritize sustainability through initiatives like the Low Emission Strategy and Air Quality Action Plan to create a cleaner, greener, and healthier city-region. As a local government body, we are directly accountable to elected politicians and work in collaboration with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Greater Manchester Transport Committee to improve transport services and facilities.
