# The Bush Base - **Website:** - **Primary alias:** `thebushbase.co.nz` ## Description The Bush Base is a nature-based learning programme for children aged 6–12 in Waiatarua, West Auckland, surrounded by the Waitākere Ranges. It welcomes children on Mondays and Wednesdays during school terms for drop-off sessions from 9am to 3pm, with small groups of up to eight tamariki. The programme offers families a way for children to spend one or two days a week learning and playing outdoors in a close-knit community. Learning follows an emergent curriculum shaped by children’s interests, curiosity, and strengths. Activities may include bush walks, creative workshops, craft, plant care, free play, shared meals, and group reflection. The Bush Base emphasises exploration, creativity, connection with nature, and respect for the natural world, supporting children’s holistic development at their own pace. The programme is led by kaiako Renda Warner, who has more than 20 years’ experience working with children and young people.
