They are a workers' co-op, meaning that the organization is run democratically by its employees. Every decision is made transparently and collectively, with everyone's voice counting. Canary is independent and not influenced by advertisers, funders, companies, political organizations, or parties. Their mission is to produce disruptive upfront journalism and amplify marginalized communities in their quest for radical social justice. They provide high-quality, well-researched, and incisive journalism to bring us closer to their vision of a society where power structures are dismantled and working-class and marginalized communities thrive. In a media landscape largely controlled by powerful moguls with conservative coverage, Canary aspires to be a truly radical and viable alternative. They fearlessly challenge the status quo and ask the hard questions, providing a fresh perspective and promoting greater equality and justice.
