## Description

The Garden City Bird Sanctuary (GCBS) is a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to managing protected green space for environmental stewardship, research, education, and community programs. Located in Garden City, New York, its nine-acre nature preserve features wooded trails, open fields, meadows, gardens, and a small fishpond, offering visitors a natural retreat within the neighborhood. The sanctuary is open on weekends from the last weekend of April through the last full weekend of September, weather permitting, and admission is free.

GCBS provides opportunities to explore local nature, learn about birds and wildlife, and take part in community activities. Its offerings include educational programs, seasonal events such as Haunted Hikes, and volunteer opportunities to help maintain the grounds and welcome visitors. Groups, including youth organizations and corporate teams, may also arrange volunteer workdays. The nonprofit depends entirely on donations and volunteers, with contributions supporting the preserve and its community programs. Visitors can become Friends of the sanctuary for benefits such as event discounts and early entry, and sign up for email updates about events and announcements.
