## Description

The Great Basin Institute (GBI) is an interdisciplinary field studies organization founded in 1998 at the University of Nevada. Working throughout the West, it promotes environmental research, education, conservation, and public service. Its mission is to advance applied science and ecological literacy through community engagement and partnerships with public agencies, supporting national parks, forests, open spaces, and other public lands.

GBI delivers environmental programs and services that help train and develop future conservationists and natural resource managers. Its work includes the Nevada Conservation Corps, Research Associate Program, Ecological Monitoring Program, Cultural Resource Program, NEPA Resource Planning, Basin & Range Forestry, and the C.O.R.E. Program. The Institute also supports visitor and heritage sites, including the Taylor Creek and Galena Creek visitor centers and the Tallac Historic Site. Through field studies, applied research, conservation practices, and public outreach, GBI contributes to science-based adaptive management of public lands. The organization offers career, seasonal, project-based, and volunteer opportunities, and invites supporters to contribute to its work serving public lands in the West.
