## Description

The Mahjong Project is a unique initiative dedicated to the cultural preservation and enjoyment of the game of mahjong. Founded by Nicole, a writer and audio producer based in Oakland, the project originated from a desire to document her family's personalized rules and traditions passed down through generations. This endeavor serves not only as an instructional guide for players looking to enhance their skills but also as an oral history project that highlights the broader context of mahjong's influence within the Chinese New Zealand community.

Launched in 2019, The Mahjong Project offers resources including detailed gameplay instructions, strategy tips, and scoring methods, making it accessible for players of all levels. It emphasizes the importance of personal memories and community engagement, inviting others to share their own mahjong stories and house rules. The project showcases a collaborative effort in design, thanks to talented creatives, making it an inviting platform for enthusiasts to connect, share, and celebrate the joy of this complex game.
